The Commonwealth of Dominica and the People’s Republic of China have signed a visa-waiver agreement that makes international travel easier between these two countries. Specifically, the pact ensures visa-free travel for Dominican citizens visiting China and for Chinese citizens visiting Dominica.
This means that now, Dominica and China passports provide their holders with the benefit of traveling to China or Dominica without additional requirements. Concretely, the need for a visa to travel from one of these countries to the other has been removed.
Negotiations for a visa-waiver agreement between China and Dominica had started in 2013 when both countries started collaborating in several areas, including health, education, and culture. They eventually signed an “Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visas for Holders of Diplomatic or Service (Official) Passports” that was enforced in March 2014.
But the benefits for ordinary Chinese and Dominican passports only came into effect on the 22nd of November 2021.
The Dominican passport is already one of the most powerful passports in the world, Dominica passport has visa-free access to 146 destinations. While, Chinese passport holders had visa-free access, visa-on-arrival access, and eTA (electronic travel authorization) access to 74 destinations before the visa-waiver agreement with Dominica.
